GLOBALIZED

The word sphere and the idea of a ball-shaped Earth comes comes from antic Greece. Back then scientists figured out the circumference of the Globe using reason and common sense starting a development that seems to outgrow the planet by now.

Globalization is easily blamed for decaying values, so I went to the starting point of our modern culture to get a feel of the consequences.
During a stay in 2002, I wanted to photograph how the greek land, the cradle of this ancient invetion was affected by development and globalization. There was an essence of something globally homogenic and uniform dumped in a rather specific, organic, rural chaos.
It is most interesting how centers (focuses of history) and periferies shift with time.
